Chapter 109: More Pictures!

After looking at the wedding pictures this morning, Joe and I headed out to explore the west side of the island. We headed to the Polihale State Park where we had to bounce along a dirt road for about 15 minutes before we reached a rather secluded and pretty beach. There were a couple of surfers but otherwise we were able to sit there in the shade and watch them "catch a few waves." It was very relaxing.Afterwards we went to the historic town of Hanapepe where we were serenaded as we enjoyed sandwiches in an old cafe. Then we headed to the Waimea Canyon (the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific") There was a long windy road that took us about 4000 ft. above sea level that over looks the canyon.Overall, we have done a lot of driving around the island of Kauai - in fact, we have gone as far as we can around the island in both directions. The only place you can't drive around the island is the Na Pali coast and we plan to hike some of it on Saturday. We're headed to a luau in just a bit - I'm sure we'll have some more good pictures from that!
